Mission Statement
(COVID-19 Note: Please see our home page for our current location and food distribution schedule)
The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed in 1993 by a coalition of community organizations, houses of worship, and concerned citizens dedicated to assisting local families who need food.
We are an all-volunteer organization with people doing everything from gathering and moving food, to packing and distributing it. Volunteers also work in their houses of worship, clubs and schools to organize food drives, raise funds and provide outreach to families in need.
Before the COVID-19 crisis, our food pantry was located at the Community Resource Center at 134 Center Avenue in Mamaroneck New York. We were opened two times each month, usually the second and fourth Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. After conducting outdoor distributions since the start of the pandemic, currently we are distributing food every week at our new indoor location at 955 Mamaroneck Avenue in Mamaroneck New York.
Each time we operate, thousands of pounds of food must be collected or purchased. Some of it is donated through local food drives, and the rest is purchased from Feeding Westchester and from a food wholesaler. Over 90% of our annual budget is spent on food and other items that are distributed directly to our clients.
The hungry people in our communities come from many different ethnic backgrounds; they are children, elderly and adults. They are employed with low wages, unemployed, living on social security, social security disability, or public assistance. They are those people who, after paying rent, utilities and medical bills, don't have enough money every month to buy food.
